Visiting Angels Announces 2022 Caregiver of the Year

Paula Perez of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Awarded In-Home Care Company’s Top Honor

BRYN MAWR, PA / ACCESSWIRE / July 5, 2022 / Visiting Angels, the nation’s leading provider of in-home senior care, is thrilled to announce Paula Perez as its 2022 National Caregiver of the Year.

Perez was selected for this prestigious honor from nominations collected from over 600 Visiting Angels franchise locations across the country. The award recognizes her overall contribution and commitment to delivering quality, compassionate care to the clients and families she serves.

Since joining Visiting Angels Bethlehem & Northampton, PA almost four years ago, Paula has proven to be one of the most caring, compassionate caregivers on staff. She does not just look after her clients; she seeks to improve the quality of their lives. She is a dementia specialist thanks to her desire to educate herself on the best ways to meet the unique needs of her clients who live with the memory-robbing disease.

“Paula is incredibly deserving of this award,” says Tricia Wingerter, owner of Visiting Angels of Bethlehem. “Paula offers dignity to her clients, a trait of a true caregiver. It is something very difficult to train but a blessing to witness.”

Paula is always out and about in the community with her clients and wears her Visiting Angels name tag with pride. Her visible passion for her job and the people she cares for has yielded interest in Visiting Angels services from prospective clients who want a caregiver like Paula in their lives. She has provided nearly 10,000 hours of care to the seniors who depend on her support in their homes.

“Paula exemplifies what it means to go above and beyond. She is a wonderful representation of our Caregiver of the Year,” says Larry Meigs, CEO of Visiting Angels. “This is a career that requires compassion, patience, and dedication. This award honors the demanding work, extraordinary commitment, and deep compassion Paula has demonstrated to her clients, often going above and beyond to make sure they are cared for.”

As Caregiver of the Year, Paula will receive a $5,000 check and an award at an upcoming ceremony.

Visiting Angels also recognizes two additional caregivers named finalists for the award.

Lynn Skidmore Being an in-home caregiver in Cameron Park, California is part of the fabric of Lynn’s life. A hero of hope, she encourages and motivates her clients every day. Lynn is known for winning over the most hesitant clients and for showing her appreciation of seniors and their history. For example, she brought joy and satisfaction to a 97-year-old client who taught her how to play chess. His family says it was so meaningful to him to know he has something to offer another person. Lynn works for Visiting Angels Gold Country, CA owned by Gail and Bill Lohmann.

Jessica Manderson – A “blessing.” That is how Jessica’s clients, their families, and fellow caregivers in Port Orchard, Washington, describe her. Jessica has a rare ability to just be present and show compassion and kindness in all that she does. She is not just a caregiver; she is an advocate for her clients when needed. She always makes sure her clients look their best every day, and she never forgets to share special celebrations with them. Jessica loves her job and her clients – and it shows in everything she does. Jessica works for Visiting Angels of Kitsap County, WA, owned by Marilyn and Rob Oswald.

Both Lynn and Jessica will receive $2,500 checks and a special award.
