Banner Health launches podcast of real medical stories

PHOENIX, March 7, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — What’s the best true story you’ve ever heard?

Banner Health Bedside Stories Podcast

The new podcast “Bedside Stories” highlights some of the most captivating and emotionally compelling personal experiences taking place behind the scenes in health care.

The narrated podcast takes listeners through a variety of medical challenges, tense moments and inspiring successes with patients, medical staff and volunteers. Each roughly 15-minute episode offers tightly woven storytelling similar to “This American Life,” “Ear Hustle” and “Serial.”

Recent episodes include an interview with a 34-year-old woman who died from a heart attack — and was revived — while giving birth to her daughter, both of whom are now in good health. In another episode, a miner shares his experience of being trapped alone for more than 48 hours in a dark mine shaft in the Arizona desert, 100 feet down, surrounded by deadly rattlesnakes.

“These truly brave and unforgettable people are sharing some of the most intimate and profound moments of their lives,” said Bedside Stories host and narrator Corey Schubert. “That sounds heavy, but there’s a lot of laughter too. These are stories that remind us how we’re all more alike, as humans, than we are different.”

Schubert has dedicated his career to storytelling. He’s a former NASA editor and journalist whose work has been featured on Dateline NBC and Discovery ID. Schubert is a public relations specialist for nonprofit Banner Health, which produces the podcast.

Bedside Stories is available on iTunes, Spotify and Anchor.
